(More customer reviews)I really like this small spiral bound pocket guide.I will say that you'd need a hefty pocket to hold it, but it's easy enough to tote along with you.
I am a nursing student near the end of my program and this has been great for clinicals. When I get my pt assignment and look at the meds list, I can take 10 minutes looking through this book to get a good idea of what I will be giving (meaning I can answer the instructor's questions about the drugs).
This isn't going to take the place of a basic understanding of pharm, but it gives the basics that are needed to safely administer a drug.
As for coverage, I would estimate that out of 20 drugs in any given day, there may be one oddball that is not included in this book and I end up using a supplemental resource.
Organization:The drugs are arranged in alphabetical order based on generic names. There is an index that refers to both brand names and generic names to help you find the drugs you're not familiar with.
Also included is basic info on administering IV solutions, blood and blood products, how to flush catheters, where/how to give injections and start IVs, emergency drugs, compatibilities, conversions, and a listing of general labs and the normal ranges.
My only complaint is that sometimes it's hard to separate the pages, but that seems to be because the pages are stiff (waterproof). Now that I'm using it a lot, the pages are easier to separate and move through.
I highly recommend and wish I'd gotten this sooner.I have a TON of reference books and this is one that I find myself using a lot on the go.I even take it to class to look up meds that the teacher mentions in lecture. It helps me get an understanding right on the spot and makes the continuing lecture easier to understand.
