International Plastics Handbook: The Resource for Plastics Engineers
This is a good book to have on your book shelf; it has a lot of general information but very little practical information. Applications information is not there but a lot of chemistry. Just not a practical book for design engineers.

Principles of Polymer Processing Review

Principles of Polymer Processing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Everything you have ever wanted to know about all polymer processing principles, beginning from the behavior in the hopper ending with the final product common defects, you will find it in that extraodinary helpful book, in a language that reminds you your early university studies. Thanks Mr Tadmor.

Product Description:
Thoroughly revised edition of the classic text on polymer processingThe Second Edition brings the classic text on polymer processing thoroughly up to date with the latest fundamental developments in polymer processing, while retaining the critically acclaimed approach of the First Edition. Readers are provided with the complete panorama of polymer processing, starting with fundamental concepts through the latest current industry practices and future directions. All the chapters have been revised and updated, and four new chapters have been added to introduce the latest developments.

Readers familiar with the First Edition will discover a host of new material, including:
* Blend and alloy microstructuring
* Twin screw-based melting and chaotic mixing mechanisms
* Reactive processing
* Devolatilization--theory, mechanisms, and industrial practice
* Compounding--theory and industrial practice
* The increasingly important role of computational fluid mechanics
* A systematic approach to machine configuration design

The Second Edition expands on the unique approach that distinguishes it from comparative texts. Rather than focus on specific processing methods, the authors assert that polymers have a similar experience in any processing machine and that these experiences can be described by a set of elementary processing steps that prepare the polymer for any of the shaping methods. On the other hand, the authors do emphasize the unique features of particular polymer processing methods and machines, including the particular elementary step and shaping mechanisms and geometrical solutions.

Replete with problem sets and a solutions manual for instructors, this textbook is recommended for undergraduate and graduate students in chemical engineering and polymer and materials engineering and science. It will also prove invaluable for industry professionals as a fundamental polymer processing analysis and synthesis reference.

Successful Injection Molding: Process, Design, and Simulation Review

Successful Injection Molding: Process, Design, and Simulation
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am mechanical engineer and this book is all you need to make plastic molding. This is a technical book and you require knowlege about mechanics (tensile strenght, finite element, Share Stress, flow, etc).

The book is well documented and take you step by step. Finally the book close using Finite element software to calcultate the process of platic molding. The problem (relative) that this software could be expensive and there is not trial demos. But if you have it or you can model your problem and solve the equations you are done.

When i started to read this book i can not design or construct a molding, when i finished it i can design, construct, evaluate and also cost a mold. I also review 5 other books of plastic molding design and they are so empiric; if you desire a technical book supported by mechanical engineering and you have the knowledge to understand and then apply it do not hesitate to go for this book. Remember a mold takes it price because there is engineering on it.

Secrets of Building a Plastic Injection Molding Machine Review

Secrets of Building a Plastic Injection Molding Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
at 120+ pages, Secrets of building a plastic injection molding machine, is a pretty quick read. I haven't gotten around to trying to build such a device yet, cause honestly I've never built anything before..
a fewwords though. The deivce once built works with strips of plastics you'vecollected from old recyclables around the house.. soda bottles, etc.. whichis pretty cool.
the machine itself however consists of about 6 pages, ofwhich 80 % is screws and bolts and washers.. The back of the books has avery small list of possible suppliers for some of the more unique parts,and it looks like the machine itself will take abour roughly 100 bucks tomake, give or take a little.
So if you've already built a few things thenby all means this is gonna be a good time for you, to expand what you cando.
if you haven't touched a screw driver lately, you might want tostart somewhere else...
