The APHA Complete Review for Pharmacy (Gourley, Apha Complete Review for Pharmacy) Review

The APHA Complete Review for Pharmacy

This is another large review book for the NAPLEX.The book may be too detailed to read from cover to cover in time for the exam, but it came free with APhA membership during our final year in pharmacy school.I used this APHA book and the Comprehensive Review of Pharmacy (Shargel) to obtain background information on topics that kept eluding me during practice exams with Appleton & Lange.

Be careful when reading the APhA book since it had some errors in the drug information tables from the last edition, particularly in the GI chapter.I don't know if they have been corrected in the new edition.

Product Description:
The NAPLEX® (North American Pharmacist LicensureExamination®) is the standard licensing exam that all U.S.pharmacy students must pass to practice pharmacy. It's anarduous exam that tests a daunting range of knowledge.Approximately 10% of students taking the exam for thefi rst time fail to achieve a passing score. Preparing forthe NAPLEX® by reviewing all the material from eachpharmacy school course would be overwhelming. A farbetter approach would be to study only the informationmost relevant to the exam, summarized in abbreviatedbullet format, and that's what The APhA Complete Reviewfor Pharmacy contains.

Appleton & Lange Review of Pharmacy Review

Appleton & Lange Review of Pharmacy

This book is great for quizzing you so you know what subjects to brush up on. THe CD can also get you used to the CAT format. But having taken the NAPLEX after using this book and several others, you will never see these questions on the NAPLEX. The chances of seeing the same question is almost zilch. Its better to know your key subjects well (HTN, DM, HIV, etc) then learn facts here and there about everything. That's what this book does for you. Its a compilation of specific questions. I recommend a review book such as APHA's Comprehensive Pharmacy Review, or Kaplans Naplex review instead.

Medication Errors Review

Medication Errors
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Medication errors is a virtual encylcopedia on medication errors. This text provides a strong theoretical background and numerous practical tips for reducing medication errors. The book expands the definition ofmedication errors beyond the well-known "five rights" ofmedication administration. Medication errors also include a failure todetect drug interactions, too rapid rates of administration, and poorpatient adherence to treatment instructions. I highly suggest this book forpharmacists, physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, risk managers, and pharmacy technicians.

This text was all I expected and more. After graduating almost 20 years ago and just getting into the compounding field it's a wonderful refresher. Straight forward and to the point. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

Pharmaceutical Calculations 13th edition Review

Pharmaceutical Calculations 13th edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One major drawback:There is no solutions manual.Granted, the answers are at the ends of chapters, and this is all right for the most part. But there are some questions for which a simple answer is inadequate.Either the chapter lesson leaves the student unprepared to answer the question, or the wording of the question is ambiguous, so the student has to work backwards from the answer.A book of highly technical calculations, especially by the 13th edition should have a solutions manual.

Product Description:
The gold standard textbook in its area for over sixty years, Pharmaceutical Calculations is now in its Thirteenth Edition. Every chapter has been revised and updated to reflect the basic calculations applicable to the contemporary practice of pharmacy. The thirteenth edition of Pharmaceutical Calculations represents a thorough update of this textbook which for over six decades has met the needs of students in this important subject area. One of the most apparent changes in this edition is the inclusion of learning objectives for each chapter. The intent is not only to define the purpose and direct the student's focus but also to provide a basis for self-assessment following completion.Another important addition, appearing in the Introduction, presents a step-wise approach in solving calculations problems which should prove beneficial to students toward understanding and building confidence.
