Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board Review Review

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The previous two reviewers gave this book both stars. However, as a senior PM&R resident about to finish my residency I can tell you that this book is one of the most popular board review books being used by U.S. residents.

Obviously popularity does not win every contest, however, what this book does do is concisely organize the admittedly vast field and bring out frequently asked questions both from the standpoint of clinical care as well as board type questions which are totally different.

The book is organized into an outline format, with "high yield" points labeled with symbols next to them. All major physiatric topics are covered, some to a lesser degree than others. However, the assumption is that since this is a Board Review, those subjects which carry less weight in terms of questions have less pages devoted to them.

If you are looking for a Board review, I believe this book is currently a good tool to use. The Braddom textbook is too wieldy for the purpose of board studying and one has to filter through too many questions; PM&R Secrets does contain good material however much of it is not board specific and is written in a way that does not lend itself to studying.

The book is a bit rough around the edges. Its outline style makes it concise but at the same time a bit jumpy. As a previous reviewer pointed out it may have a few slightly outdated points but again, for *Board Purposes*, this field has not changed enough to make them drastic points of conflict.

Take what you will from this review. I have no affiliation with the writer or the editor.

DMSO: Nature's Healer Review

DMSO: Nature's Healer
Average Reviews:

The healing power of DMSO discussed in this book is no exaggeration.I've been using DMSO on and off for exercise related injuries since 1983.It really works.

Depending on where it's applied, sometimes the skin will burn and itch for about 15 minutes and look like a bad sunburn afterward. This is temporary and harmless. On other places I will feel almost no sensation. It's especially effective on a fresh tissue injury.Since it quickly penetrates the skin and enters the blood stream, within a few minutes of application there is always a fishy taste in my mouth. One social side effect of frequent use is that the user will emit a fishy smell! This is a small price to pay for those in chronic pain.

At least for me, the pain killing effect of DMSO is uneven.Sometimes it will kill the pain completely, other times the effect is partial. But it always does something.Unlike prescription painkillers, DMSO's effect is cumulative. The more frequently one uses it, the less one needs. The least irritating delivery system is DMSO combined with aloe vera gel.The deodorant type applicator is too messy.

It's unfortunate that mainstream medicine has shunned this inexpensive, safe and extremely effective healer in favor of expensive, addictive and dangerous prescription drugs.
