Teaching Atlas of Interventional Radiology: Non-vascular Interventional Procedures (Teaching Atlas) Review

Teaching Atlas of Interventional Radiology: Non-vascular Interventional Procedures
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Together with the book by Karim Valji (Vascular and interventional radiology, ISBN 0721670032) this book forms a formidable addition to any prospective interventionalist's library. The book essentially forms two parts. An introduction describing in a review format some common fields of interventional radiology such as lower extremity arterial disease, but also enlightens the user on the highly busy part of interventional radiology - that related to dialysis vascular access and its importance for the dialysist and (no lesse important) for the patient with a dialysis access. The second part of the book describes case stories with appropriate images and narrative content. A few areas seem a little different from modern approach with almost no vascular CT or even mention of multi-detector vascular CT, an important emergent technique. Also - albeit this may be from my lack of familiarity with American settings - a curious case of a patient with a brain abscess is related and the sequelae of that is never really mentioned. In general the book is informative, well written, clear and with a lot of interesting and highly educational examples.

Breast MRI: Fundamentals and Technical Aspects Review

Breast MRI: Fundamentals and Technical Aspects
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is currently doing breast MRI or interesting in starting. The first several chapters are directed toward understanding the physics behind breast MR and are easy to understand even by a non-physicist.The second half of the book turns toward protocols, safety and optimizing breast MRI techniques. The book is clearly written and has changed my clinical practice.I am now performing studies that use magnet time more efficiently and with improved image quality. This book is valuable to both the beginner and the experienced breast imager. It is particularly helpful to radiologists who want to improve their breast MRI protocols. I also recommend this book to any technologist who wants to know more about breast MRI.

Product Description:

Breast MRI has emerged as a valuable adjunct to the conventional imaging modalities in the detection of primary and recurrent breast cancer. Yet, most radiologists who rely on MRI do not have knowledge of the fundamentals so essential to achieving and maintaining high image quality. With a focus on the basic imaging principles of breast MRI rather than on mathematical equations, this book takes a practical approach to imaging protocols that helps radiologists increase their diagnostic effectiveness. The text walks the reader through the basics of MRI, making it especially accessible to beginners. From a detailed outline of equipment prerequisites for obtaining high quality breast MRI to instructions on how to optimize image quality, expanded discussions on how to obtain optimized dynamic information, and explanations of good and bad imaging techniques, the book covers the topics that are most relevant to performing breast MRI.By presenting the key aspects of breast MRI in straightforward terms and with clear images, this practical book benefits all practitioners seeking to increase their working knowledge and competence in breast MRI. It fills an important gap in the literature and is also of value to residents preparing for the diagnostic radiology boards.

Vascular & Interventional Radiography: A Comprehensive Text & Examination Review Book Review

Vascular & Interventional Radiography: A Comprehensive Text & Examination Review Book
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book provided an adaquate overview of interventional radiology equipment and procedures. However, the book was chalk full of spelling, grammar, and punctuational errors. In some places the editing was so poor that I had to reread information 2 or 3 times to figure out what the author was trying to communicate. It does not offer explanations for all the answers in the review section. For me, the answers I disagreed with most were answers that had no explanation given. Also, some information in this book directly conflicted with information given in another section of the same book. Most of the drawings lacked detail. Having already sat for my ARRT (VI) exam, on the job experience was far greater a reference to draw from than was this book. I regret paying the steep price tag. Wait for Appleton & Lange to put out an ARRT (VI) review book.

Surgical Neuroangiography Review

Surgical Neuroangiography
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The whole work Surgical Neuroangiography by P Lasjaunias is a monument. While the first edition did not really reflect the brilliant mind that Prof Lasjaunias was, it was indispensable. In many ways the new edition is even better, much much better even since much of the sometimes confounding structure of the rpevious version has been improved and the book can now be used to really learn neuroangiography. Indeed the rpevious version, while containing information of extreme importance was very (very) difficult to read. The new version is rather easy and very very enjoyable since it provides great insight to the work of what was one of the giants of Neuroradiology whose lectures will be sadly missed.

Product Description:
This book will be helpful to professionals who use the vascular system of the spine, spinal cord, and brain in their practice and in their search for better understanding, reliability, and safety in their decisions and actions by providing a new conceptual approach to the vascular supply to the brain spine and spinal cord. Statements such as "the median cerebral artery is a branch of the anterior cerebral artery" or "the internal carotid and vertebral arteries are minor vessels, they can be absent. They represent the most common distribution pattern to the arterial circle at the base of the brain, but certainly not the only one" show that the authors are far from providing the traditional presentation of the arterial system in man.

There are also some drawings of internal structures like muscles and veins added to make it easier to visualize and understand. I cannot comment on the CD because I have not looked at it, yet.
